JN says it possibly has to do with the "Adopt a Neopian" button and you do 15 out of the available 17 quests.

So if you miss 2 days you're still good, but the items are inflating because of this :/

I say you sell your plushies to make funds for the Adopt a Neopian items. At least with those, it seems like there's a definite reward.
