Well uc petpets are not really that expensive unless you really wish to get one then maybe buying would be a great idea.

They are a nice perk and there are some users that like to have pets with UC petpets or with glitches, but in reality, there is not set value on the trading scene. Sometimes people over-offer for pets with UC petpets depending on which one it is (specially if the pet that has it is WN and if it's UC even better) but if you have a basic BN pet with an UC petpet, chances are you won't be trading that high, unless you advertise a lot or find the right person.

It really depends on who are after them. I usually see a couple boards a month "kind of" looking for them (since it's against the rules to advertise based on a petpet). I know a few people are looking for pets with a Fat Cat.
Do they convert to their normal counterpart once detached?
Yes! Which is why it really depends on the pet who has it.
If hatdaw_13ahssd has a "Fat Cat" attached to it. I would say it would be like 5$ at mostt.
