    Does anyone know about craiglist?

I'm from Quebec/Canada so I'm not really sure what's it about or how to use it.
All I know is that I found something I wanted to buy from someone on their website, and I'm not sure how to deal with this.

Is it safe to deal with craiglist? I just don't want to end up being stolen out of a certain amount of money.

So if you have any experience with it, please let me know.

Are you familiar with kijiji at all?
It's just a websites, where real people and businesses can post classifieds.
Most of the times it's safe, but you never really know what can happen because the person on the other side can have bad intentions.
But just talk it over with the seller, meet in a public place like a mall and bring someone with you, and you should be fine.

They live in the states so there's no way I could really meet them.
I'll definitely contact them and see if we can work out something that would keep me safe.

But yea, I do know a little about kijiji! Thanks for explaining, I appreciate.

Back when I was a kid, my family used to buy/sell stuff on craigslist. There are some shaddddy shady characters on there. I've always just met with them, never anything through shipping, just make sure you get all their information in case they try and scam you.

I know people in Ontario who have bought tvs/phones on there and had no problem. But as @(you need an account to see links) said, definitely meet somewhere public with a friend or two.

I've used craigslist to buy most of the furniture for my apartment, and sold a few pieces of furniture via craigslist.

Be sure you get all the details about what you are purchasing (email is best so you have evidence of what you are told) and confirm the price before hand, and how you will be paying for it and taking it with you. For smaller items you can sometimes get them to meet you at a public space, for larger items you usually pick it up from their place.

It's a matter of common sense - if something seems wrong, it probably is. Better to let it go.

Also keep in mind, craigslist has a lot of anonymity. The person selling will receive ~20 spam emails from their add, ~15 emails from people interested that never show, and maybe ~3 actual buyers showing interest. Make sure you don't sound like a bot and that you are an actual person when you message them.
There are no girls on the internet.

Oh if that's the case, than you shouldn't have any worries.
Assuming you are buying a physical product and you will be using a Paypal to pay with, if they don't send out your product you can just start a dispute.

Should only use these ad sites for people in your own city, or within commuting distance so like others have said, can meet in person. Don't do it online unless there's tracking + signature involved to win CBs, etc.

If you can't meet with backup, do it at a public place like a mall in the middle of the day with people around.

Since it's craigslist, don't do it online anyways. It's old news, usually it's sketchy peeps who use it these days, or those looking for a quickie.
*normal* people use Kijiji nowadays, and you get better results.
