If a guy wants to spend their free time at the gym then so be it. I personally will still pick a "dad bod" because of my personal disinterest in gym guys. To me big bulging muscles from gym workouts make me want to avoid that man. I have zero interest in working out or going to the gym so I automatically have disinterest in the gym buffs. For me it is hard to show interest in someone if I know that a major part in their life is an aspect I know I greatly dislike. I cannot stand going and working out. My way of staying fit is eating healthy and going out for walks. I have nothing against that individual going to the gym and enjoying it's just personally, if given the choice, I would choose the normal looking non-ripped guy over the gym buff. What if you work all week and still manage to stay fit and hit the gym often?

Neither. I like teenage boy bods. Hue.....
Seriously I like limited body hair and younger guys.
And I'm 23. Hue.

Honestly the only show I've seen a maybe "average" sized woman with a fit man is Melissa and Joey, which i love! If I were to be real nit picky about it, I'd say she's the TV-acceptable average woman because she's curvy with a small waist.
That aside she's a babe woooooowie

Please at least make sure they're legal.
I'm all about do whatever makes you feel good, etc. Some people love hitting the gym, others don't. So, you do you.
However, personally, for my OWN romantic interests, I'm not really about the 'gym bod' -- aka huge muscles, six pack, etc. It's a bit of a turn-off, though I won't write a guy off just for having a gym bod lmao.
Both my SO and the guys I've dated in the past have all had fairly nice biceps, but no six pack (a bit of flab, etc.) It's important to me that the guy is able to be physically active (I love to hike, canoe/kayak, etc), however.... so uh, while a 'dad bod' is great, if the guy is significantly weaker than I am, that's gonna be a turn-off too.
I think one of the reasons girls tend to prefer the 'dad bod' is because dating a guy who is extremely, extremely fit usually also means he spends long hours at the gym and staring at himself in the mirror.... when he could be spending those hours cuddling with his girlfriend, staring at her (heh), or engaging in other *ahem* activities. Another benefit of the dad bod.

I prefer dad bods mainly because if I dont go to the gym everyday I don't expect my partner to do so either. I feel if I ever got into a relationship with a gym bod person they would force me to go to the gym everyday.
