VMware help. (hopefully it's easy to solve..)

+rep to whoever can help me out with this.

My other computer is having issues so I'm on my mac at the moment trying to run windows through VMware.

The .iso file that I have on my mac desktop looks like this:

... and the VMware doesn't let me select the above icon to use as the new operating system when I'm creating a new machine.

I think the icon needs to look like this to work:

Note: Also, both of these files seem to end in ".iso" so that's another aspect that confuses me.

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Try this. I didn't have this problem but I've heard of it and I think that should solve it.

Mmmm.. I'm not very good at computer stuff so I'm clueless too lol. When I downloaded my windows file it was already a full .iso, not an archived one, but you're right it's quite weird that the archived file itself is an .iso x-x

Maybe the .iso is inside that archive? Have u tried unzipping the contents? You can try changing the extension to .zip by renaming it and try unzipping. If it doesn't work then just revert back the extension to .iso and find another solution.

Yup tried unzipping it and I just got a folder with some more folders + a setup.exe file.

@(you need an account to see links) Hmm.. I've encountered iso's before that bears the archived file logo but I'm not really familiar with VMWare. I just leave my Mac as Mac and my Windows as Windows.xD Sorry not much of a help. I hope @(you need an account to see links) can fix it for you, tho.

    PS
Yeah Windows is just more user-friendly.:3

An .iso is basically an archive that is easily burned to disc. I'd recommend mounting the .iso file to a (bootable) USB drive.

Here are some tutorials for mac OS: (you need an account to see links) and (you need an account to see links)
