I think they're only likely to know if you log in, log out, sending NC or send a suspicious score with different IP accounts. If you were just browsing and the VPN turned off and you caught it quickly you should be fine.

When I first started cheating with SS, I had no idea that I needed to do it on my side and also mistakenly sent a reviewed score. still the score was accepted by TNT. But that score wasn't even enough for a trophy so maybe they didn't really look at the score. the review system is only a bait to frighten ppl, at least for lower end scores that make up the silver/bronze positions.
also the responses for reviewed scores are really slow these days even when the scores are legit. I doubt there're many TNT staff having the time to really look at the score. as long as you are not too blatant or get reported, you'd be fine.

TNT only used to log IP's at log in and log out. Not sure if this is still true, but you should be alright. I've forgot to put a proxy up before logging into illegit accounts and I haven't gotten in any trouble.
I agree with you @(you need an account to see links), a few weeks ago I had a legit score reviewed and tnt took forever to sent the answer.
Also, if you have turned on the VNP quickly, I don't think they had the time to notice it.
