So I was just watching some morning news.
I wasn;t really paying to much attention as I just needed to see the weather.
That is until they showed this.

Then I got interested.
After that, they said fast food workers in NY are on strike.
Primarily McDonalds employees.
They are asking for DOUBLE the minimum wage.
So instead of around $7.50/hr
They want $15/hr
o_o Is you friggin serious? $15 and hour to flip burgers?
This made me laugh xD

Haha. Yeah. But we also pay crazy taxes, so that might be it. I do get $35 an hour at my student job though xD and I basically have no education yet as I'm still in school

Holy crap o_o I need to move to Denmark!
Yea, min. wage here where I live is like $7.62/hr
People consider $10-$12/hr awesome pay, and that's usually for really labor intensive work, like landscaping, roofing etc.

$15/hour for working at McDonald's is outrageous. COnsidering I worked at one for two years. I got paid $8.25/hour at first and that was more than enough. The job is easy, and it's not that hard. Sure, they're in a huge city, but so what? They should be able to handle it. I worked at one off of an interstate coming right from Chicago. WE were busy. Never once did I think, "Maybe I should get everyone to go on strike today because we don't get paid enough!".
Just. No.
You are forgetting that these are workers in NYC. The cost of living here is what is outrageous.
The average rent for a one bedroom apartment is $3000. Gas and internet? That's another $250 (without cable). You want a metrocard? $110 per month. Food expenses are also higher (and difficult to have access to the healthy stuff if you live in a lower income area) because everything has to be transported into the city.
Not to mention, NYC has an extra income tax on top of what you earn.
So in order to be able to support yourself on 45 hours a week, you need to earn AT LEAST 18 dollars an hour just to cover Rent, transport, and basic utilities.
That does not include food, clothing, health care, or any other expenses, and does not take into account the higher tax rate your income would be subject to.
does that make it more clear for you guys why they would demand higher pay?

There are no girls on the internet.
I understand that. It's not a whole lot different in Chicago. (the city itself, not the suburbs so much). Which I know of many people living in Chicago in similar situations. Not nearly as bad as NYC, but still bad. But really, if I was living in NYC and couldn't afford to live there on my own and I could only work at McDonald's, I'd find people to rent a place with and room with them. During that time I would search for a new job. Working at a McDonald's with pay like that is just unrealistic. Find a new job. Which is hard, yes I know, but it's not impossible. Ambition and attitude is what will get people somewhere in life. These people are just relying on the McDonald's Corporation to take care of them, when really; that's not their problem. Being in crew at McDonald's is a big thing for teens just starting to work. It's a good way for them to get into the job field. They shouldn't be getting paid $15/hr. Managers at McDonald's rarely get paid that much if ever. So that would mean they'd have to boost the pay on the manager's salary or they'll strike, and if they raised the pay in NYC, they'd have to do it everywhere else. Which is not realistic. So if these people really need to make more money, they need to start working towards it and either move up in the company or find a better paying job. Easier said than done, sure. But it's doable.
The Epic Dinosaur Prank is epic though. Can't stop laughing!
