Exactly! The easy, non controversial option was there all along. My bets are on them wanting to nuke the black market. Pet name changes incoming next perhaps??

To the people who are angry: did you buy or sell UCs? If not, I'm surprised.

This is honestly so great for the majority of users who never got to choose whether or not to keep their UC pets. And I mean ALL of them. Meercas were ruined, as well as Lutaris. The Faerie Ixi looks a bit different (to me it looks better honestly) and people think they're being ruined the same way. Not comparable at all.

Didn't she only say old pets will get a trophy? She didn't say the OG UCs will get a trophy, right?

Pets over 5k days old get a trophy whether they're UC or not. It seems like nothing will differentiate between UCs and NCUC, and UC owners get their pets converted to the new version.

I'm in no rush for them to get to royals now, my desire for a RB Zafara pales next to how much I don't want the art on my kyrii touched.

From what I've read and understand is that the site isn't bringing in enough money and something with jumpstart hasn't been going well. So this probably is their way of bringing back a large playerbase and bringing in more money.

...so in addition to auto-converting our UC's, they're making us pay to re-UC them?

My money is on the site being a shit show and this being the only way they could figure out how to do it. So rather than abandoning what they hoped would be a cash cow, they shot themselves in the foot and made UCs pretty useless. I don’t think anybody would rather have a silly trophy on their pet instead of the OG pets.

It makes me kind of hesitate about whether I want to actually fully re-invest in the site like I wanted to.
Not because I had a bunch of UCs that will now be borked, though I do feel very bad for the people that do, but because it's a really weird way to sabotage the community. They could have done literally nothing like they have been for years but chose this route instead.
It's like they just make promises than panic when it's noticed and they have to actually do something.

I don’t think their plan is going to work. Many of the accounts are bot accounts, many more are folks like us at ck. A large number are likely storage accounts as well or inactive that were taken over by other people. The numbers they see for activity likely aren’t accurate as far as real players coming back.

What I don’t understand is why eliminate an aspect of the game that many people worked very hard to trade up to and work towards. Do they think something like that will make those players want to stick around? Do they think a move like this helps to establish trust in TNT? When something that’s survived for over a decade after the conversion gets auto converted at the drop of a hat? If I were a legit player I would not want to shell out money for this scheme after the track record TNT has. This is gonna be a flop.

Surely it's obvious most of us are involved in buying or selling in some form or fashion? Of course people are going to be upset that something they've invested real money in has been rug pulled. The anger is justified, but so is your happiness. They can coexist

I completely agree. Neopets is about nostalgia. People who feel nostalgic about something generally don't like, yanno, change.....
A huge part of the allure of UCs for me is the fact that they are somewhat of a relic. Now they're not only changing the artwork of some of the pets, but now they're essentially converting the UCs as well. Ree.
