It's here! Beyonc� has dropped her sixth studio album (and second visual album) Lemonade, following an hour-long TV special on HBO.

It's been just over two years since she shocked the world with the unannounced release of BEYONC� back in 2013 - and the tactic worked. The self-titled set went on to sell over 5 million copies worldwide, ushering in a new era of surprise releases.

But this time we were a tiny bit more prepared for what the superstar had in store for us, so here's everything you need to know about the next era of Queen Bey's reign.

Only a fool would try and second guess Beyonc�'s release schedule after the stealthy rollout of her last album, but whispers on the web proved to be pretty accurate.

The 34-year-old supposedly had the album all wrapped up and completed by the end of 2015. So after stunning the Super Bowl with 'Formation' and announcing a new world tour for the Spring, Beyonc�'s new album Lemonade finally landed as a Tidal exclusive (obviously) on April 23.

For weeks there was a lot of buzz from the BeyHive about a new song called 'Formation'. Then finally, on February 6, it appeared on the internet completely unannounced - music video and everything.


Of course, this being Beyonc�, it wasn't a traditional release. 'Formation' is being given away as a free download, so whether that means it isn't being considered the first official single has yet to be confirmed. Either way, it's a powerful track, and the music video is up there with Bey's very best.

But then, when the album finally dropped, it came to light that 'Formation' was actually the finale. Here's the full tracklist for Lemonade:

On April 16 the BeyHive must've felt pretty pleased with themselves, as Beyonc� finally confirmed their suspicions. The singer announced plans to premiere her new film Lemonade on HBO at 9pm ET/6pm P​T on April 23. ​Moments after the TV special aired, Lemonade was confirmed as the album's title too.​


Beyonc� new album credits: Who has Queen Bey been working with?
The rumoured collaborators for this project were varied (with some surprises), but very exciting all the same.

From Cara Delevigne to Clean Bandit, Beyonc� had been pictured in the studio with a number of interesting combinations. But ultimately, the final tracklist featured some of the most intriguing team-ups of her career so far.

First off is former White Stripes main man Jack White. He sings and performs alongside Beyonc� on 'Don't Hurt Yourself', which is the most rock we've heard the R&B diva go yet.

The Weeknd brings his brand of moody R&B to '6 Inch', which is effortlessly seductive and one of the album's highlights. British musician James Blake opens 'Forward' with a piano, before Beyonc� joins him for the ghostly alt electronic ending.

Finally, Kendrick Lamar is the fourth guest vocalist on the album. 'Freedom' is a rousing bluesy number with a wobbly organ line. It's up there with some of Bey's most empowering anthems.

As for the brains behind the scenes, Diplo, The-Dream, Boots, Mike WiLL Made It and James Blake all co-produced cuts, while Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig, MNEK and Wynter Gordon all have songwriting credits.

Eek. One of the most striking things about Beyonc�'s new album is just how honest she is on it. Rarely do we get a glimpse into the superstar's personal life, but Lemonade hears her address those Jay Z cheating rumours.

"You know I give you life," Bey sings on 'Don't Hurt Yourself'. "If you try this shit again, you gon' lose your wife." Elsewhere on 'Hold Up', Beyonc� asks: "Can't you see there's no other man above you? What a wicked way to treat the girl that loves you."

​But by the end of the hour-long special, Beyonc� has forgiven her husband and Jay Z makes a cameo during 'Sandcastles'.​

So what about this supposed joint album with Jay Z then?​
Back in 2014, Beyonc� went On The Run with her husband Jay Z for some huge shows across America and Europe. Shortly after the tour wrapped up, there were some strong reports that the pair had been working on a joint album.

The rumours were later given a new breath of life when TIDAL exec Vania Schlogel​ said that such a collaborative project, if it were to be exclusive to their subscribers, would not disappoint. For extra context, TIDAL is the music streaming service owned by Jay Z.

More recently, reports have suggested that this long-awaited joint album will follow Beyonc�'s own solo project later in the year. Brace yourselves: we could be getting a double Bey-side in 2016.

Whatever the case may be, we have plenty of Lemonade to sip on in the meantime.
