I can't remember where I saw this mentioned, either on here or somewhere else...but it was just an example of a specific item that would only work if your pet had x intelligence.
Is there a guide somewhere with the battledome equipment and what your pet needs to have in order for them to work?
(all once per battle if intel effect active)
Intelligence:
Crisp Blue Tunic - 100 HP drain (>750i)
Heavy Blue Tunic - Freeze (>1,000i)
Short Sleeved Yellow Tunic - 75 HP heal (>500i)
Movement:
Heavy Robe of Thievery - Steal (>200m)
There are a few more intel-sensitive weapons, but they're pretty shit.
