Usually it has a DHCP request that gets renewed, so simply power cycling won't do the trick; you need to unplug your modem, go into your router and change the MAC address (just change a single digit if you don't know the MAC format) then plug back into your modem. This tricks it into thinking a new device is connected and assigns a new DHCP request therefore a new IP.
