If we have enough interest we can maybe play in teams so that there is a balance between experienced and no as experienced players. @(you need an account to see links) would.know more about the logistics of that as she has done tournaments like that before.

I’ve actually been talking about organising this for a while, haha ask @(you need an account to see links)!
It can be done but it does take some logistics to manage. When I get to work later I’ll type out more how I’ve done this before because I have participated in an MK8 tournament previously.

Okay, so when I did a MK8 tournament, it was team based. Keep in mind this was September 2022 so I will do my best to remember all of the specific details that I can!
Each team had 4 players on it, and two teams went head to head online at pre-determined times and moved up the bracket depending on their performance. Scores were for the 4 player team overall. 4 races were done per match, and each player earns their team points based on how they finished each race. The team with the higher overall score advanced to the next match. The player base was large, so there were 4 pools of teams. If I recall, they had set up pre-determined Tournament lobbies.. but I can't remember exactly.
We used Discord to VC with our teammates and cheer each other. Each pool had their own voice channel to use with each other so it wasn't chaos. There was a separate text channel where the time of each match was posted and how to get into the lobby was shared as well. It was asked that someone from each team take screenshots of the final scores to post in the Discord to confirm advancement.
Not to brag, but my team won for our pool. I was very impressed
Rules we used:
-Race: 4 races, chosen at random by players voting (similar to how a race is chosen in a public online lobby)
-150 CC
-All items (same as default when playing a Grand Prix or in public online lobbies)
-No restrictions on vehicles
-If comms are used, no restrictions on vehicles, items, and comms difficulty is set at normal
The biggest key to an event like this working is to ensure everyone is online at the same time to participate. It would be easier to split into two groups: one with beginners that race at 100CC and another with more advanced players that race at 150CC. 50CC is very slow/too easy, which is why I recommend 100CC for beginners/intermediate and 150CC for veterans/more experienced players.
Depending on how many people are interested, it could be fun to do teams BUT we would ideally need 4 people per team to be fair, and it means the entire team must participate otherwise the numbers are unbalanced and scoring won't be fair. We could do teams of 2 versus 2, I guess. Just depends on interest we receive. The biggest thing is EVERYONE who participates needs to be online and available to play within the window. When I played, I had to be online and available for about 3 or 4 hours. Our group would be much smaller so of course that will be shorter but to complete 4 races can take 15 minutes, so we would need at least one hour, if not probably up to two, to ensure all matches are finished from beginning to "gold metal" aka the final match up.
Hopefully that makes some sense. Let me know if anyone has any questions or anything else. Like I said before, I have been wanting to organize this for a while! It would be fun but it does require a lot of coordination among participants and hosts to work successfully

Whoa, I came back to a lot posted haha. I'm fine with teams and the likes or individual racing, whichever is fine with everyone. If we do different CCs, then it'd be nice if the 150 CC racers used Frantic items over normal.
