Bad feelings on Christmas sucks. I started sobbing because for some reason I started questioning my identity and everything I hold dear.

When you get the funds to leave, just do it. Your mom is not your responsibility and the fact you can't set boundaries and have her respect them is terrible.

On top of your nephew being a dickhead.... when you leave let the last time you see them be in your rear view!

I also had a not so great Christmas as well. Ended up hiding from the family because of some mental health issues I've been going through.

I hate that you feel stuck in your situation. It makes me sad that you couldn't have a good Xmas because of your family, specifically the one family member. Just know you are justified in your feelings. Do you have a friend you can talk to, visit, or anything like that to help you? Just someone who you can vent to and maybe get some other words of wisdom and advice? I really wish the best for you and am sending you all the best vibes!!!

My sister spent the entire day complaining about the lack of money she has, but left for an hour to go get stoned.. and then got my parents to pay for her fuel home...
Sucks when there's nothing anyone can do to help them because they won't help themselves

Omg girl I'm so sorry, he's a total piece of trash and I swear if I was over there I would kick his ass SO hard, how dare he behave like that towards you! And the fact that your family only enables him is such a kicker. 😞 I agree with Pigeon, hopefully you are able to save up enough funds to leave. I know you got saddled with your mom but if she doesn't act like a mother towards you? Nah, FUCK that. It's 2023 and just because someone decided to give birth to YOU doesn't make you beholden to their asshattery. You deserve to have your peace and self worth affirmed, and if your "family" isn't up to that then they have no place in your life. It's a tough reminder that just because it's a holiday doesn't make the people around us necessarily behave any better than they have the remainder of the year.

I hope that in the future things look up for you, Buizel, and wholeheartedly agree with everyone providing encouragement for you to strike out on your own when finances line up.
