This seems like a good enough time as any to share two of my favorite English pronunciation videos!
The first 2.5 minutes are sufficient for this first clip:
As a second language english speaker, these viedeos are nuts. ghoti=fish? wtf?
It's a hypothetical example of how wildly pronunciations in English can vary!! I think it stems mostly from English's roots in many different language groups, whereas languages like French, Spanish, and Portuguese are all based on Latin. English adopts those words in addition to its old Germanic roots, if I recall correctly. Nobody would actually dream of pronouncing ghoti as "fish" - but as in the hypothetical examples provided, it is *technically* (although 10,000% unlikely) possible to arrive at that conclusion.

Hehe, we have something similar in german when conjugate verbs.
It's
sinken - gesunken (sinking)
singen - gesungen (singing)
stinken - gestunken (stinking)
but it's also
winken - gewinkt not gewunken (waving)

Oh is that how it's spelled? Is that why the Neoboard filters fuck with the word 'onion' because it's wrong?
Shocking. The filter was right all along.
