    What is Green Tea?

Green tea comes from the Camellia Sinesis plant, as does all tea. Tea is further categorized into four main types or groups: Oolong tea, green tea, black tea and white tea. The different types or groups of tea are determined by the oxidization they receive during processing. The more the tea is exposed to oxidization, the darker and more full-bodied it will be. Oxidization also increases the caffeine component of tea and allows the tea to develop a richer flavor. Green tea has been exposed to minimal oxidization and so has very little aroma or caffeine, but retains its nutrients and powerful antioxidants.

Green Tea – Flavor & Variety

Green tea originated in china, but is now cultivated in many other areas. Depending on factors such as growing conditions, harvesting time and the type of processing the tea undergoes, these different varieties can have varying results. Green tea is often described as refreshingly light and fresh tasting, making it ideal to serve over ice. Whether you like your green tea hot or on ice, the incredible health benefits are packed into each cup.

Green Tea – Weight Loss Facts:

Green tea provides more than improved health … it’s an ideal weight loss aid! Research shows that green tea can significantly contribute to fast weight loss. It stimulates the metabolism and blocks fat absorption; a green tea diet is a perfect addition to your weight loss program.

I second this! At least the drinking tea part. I drink a variety of tea every week and can't go a day without drinking some kind of tea. When you drink it hot, it's really relaxing.. on the other hand, I've recently learned that some tea have caffeine in them. Certainly solves the mystery as to why I can't drink coffee to stay up at night.

Whilst there is nothing bad about green tea water also does all those marvelous things listed above. The reason green tea is recommended for weight loss is due to the fact it has 0 calorie per serve and cost your body 15-20 calories to digest it. I'd argue it also has that placebo effect due to taste compared to water and the feeling of being 'full'.

Not knocking the article, just saying water is good, if not better

The thing about trends like this is that they are often either backed by "research" that does not exist, or they take valid research and exaggerate it to a ridiculous extent so that people will buy the product. Here is my take on this (based on 4+ years of studying nutrition at a university). Green tea is healthy for you because it contains antioxidants. Antioxidants are great because they repair cell damage that has been done to your body from smoking, pollution, or just every day life and the toxins you take in. In this sense they can aid in slowing the progressive decline in function of your body that typically happens with age. This is a valid claim. Marketing companies then take this claim and say things like "IT'S A FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH, IT WILL KEEP YOU YOUNG AND HEALTHY AND CURE YOUR WRINKLES AND DISEASES" when this is a very exaggerated version of the truth. It is very misleading to the consumer.
Same goes for the weight loss claims. Green tea contains caffeine. Caffeine is a stimulant. Stimulants speed up your metabolism. So consuming green tea daily may result in very minimal weight loss, the same way drinking a cup of coffee every day does. Or smoking cigarettes. Stating that green tea will make you lose tons of weight is an over exaggeration. In order to actually see drastic weight loss results, you would have to also eat a healthy, balanced diet and exercise regularly. The extent of weight loss you will see from drinking green tea daily alone is very minimal.

I fully support these statements. As a recent University science graduate and for anyone else who has done any amount of research work one the most annoying bits in research is the exaggerated claims that x,y,z is a "natural cure all" or that something will absolutely be the reason for x cure. There is no such thing as a weight loss cure so anyone claiming to have the magic product is already stating lies to you, there are aids but then comes the false advertising and lack of actual research to back their claims up-blogs and natural health websites are often horrible for this lack of real evidence. Companies will say it is scientifically tested and hence use that to try and make the sale however if asked what that science says the scientific paper will mention "further research is needed", "it looks promising", or "possible source of benefit". When it gets down to the actual science what these health claims fail to mention is the amount of said product that would be required to have a supposed medical benefit, in the case of tea you would literally need to be drinking far more glasses a day than a person would be willing to drink while still adhering to proper dietary restrictions and exercise programs. Be very careful when reading into claims that something is going to cure something because it will not, aiding in natural body processes is what actually happens however exaggerations of the aid is all too common. Never believe that you can only for example drink tea to help lose weight simply because the internet page you read has a flashy banner and a picture of an actor in a lab coat, always be conscious that companies out there are looking to make money off of you not necessarily looking to actually benefit your health.

Its great for guys I'm sure. For girls it can mess with your contraception by changing your oestrogen balance which I figured out from experience. Be careful Having got a Bachelor of Biomedicine I'd say the main benefit is the antioxidants, but you can get plenty from eating a well rounded diet anyway, which would have more infulence on weight loss.

If you want an appetite suppressant try St Johns Wort, works for some (worked for me, but again it messes with female hormones and the pill).

Green tea helps us in different way, special for our weight issues. But on the other hand green tea is not a rocket science which solve our weight issues instantly. It is way better to use manual way for solving weight issues like diet control, manage our eating habits and do some physical stuff like exercise, gym, yoga, running, walking etc.
