For Halloween 1995, I desperately wanted to go as the Red Power Ranger, but my mom bought me a Simba costume from the Lion King. My friend went as the Blue Power Ranger. I was devastated.

She made up for it in 1996 though! I went as Sonic the Hedgehog.

As a kid, my mother was utterly opposed to Halloween because "we aren't American." Jokes on her: I married an American. Haha, fuck you, Mum, I'll do what I want.

We don't celebrate Halloween here or should I say, it's not a traditional holiday in my part of the world but in recent years more and more people enjoy it and kids and teenagers dress up in costumes, kids gather to play trick-or-treat (I should remember to buy candies!) but it's funny because in cities more people live in blocks of flats (mine is 17 floors) and even if you decorate your door, it's not the same as the decoration of houses in a street. Also, the older generations and some of the younger ones with kind of nationalistic vibe are against the celebrations because it's not traditional, it's not Christian (who cares, our country is secular), it's Western, it's American, it's evil and it corrupts the youth Also, the 1st of November is a holiday that celebrates the life and work of people who helped and help the nation progress - teachers, spiritual leaders, the creators of our alphabet, writers, scientists... But this usually is celebrated in a boring, formal way that we inherited from our communist past, and children aren't very interested in learning about those people. So some think that it's Halloween fault "Why are you celebrating this foreign, pagan holiday and don't know anything about those great people that helped the nation in tough times?" Because Halloween is funny and colourful and you make 1st November celebrations dull and tedious, maybe?
So people argue a lot in social media but I actually enjoy Halloween. There are Halloween parties one can go to but I'm not sure how it will go with the coronavirus and the colder weather...

Candy corn - yes or no?

I stock up on candy corn at halloween and eat it slowly throughout the year. I LOVE it.

Not the pumpkins, though, or the chocolatey ones. Only original.

Candy corn is right up there with anything marshmallow based....HECKIN' NASTY! I work in a chocolate/candy factory, so even watching the process of marshmallow Halloween chocolate being made is... BLECH
Halloween is the only corporate holiday I genuinely enjoy though. I love everything about it. And I reeaaaallllyyy love that I can now customise all my pets for the season. It's the most aesthetically pleasing for me. Christmas is bleh. Valentines Day? Meh. Easter? Bah.
Halloween? 'Tis the season to get spookified!
