The NeoBoard threads that speak of this are being silenced, so this is a taboo issue on the site itself TNT is trying to juggle.
A lot of the pets 'accidentally' zapped were people's unconverted pets. When they were reverted back today to their original color, they were, except they're now converted.
So, the joke rendered a lot of people with converted pets today. Nobody knows if they're attempting to fix it or not, or how they'll go about it.
Neopets already doesn't like unconverted pets.
Now, the programmers and the moderators are going to be pained in the ass in trying to fix it and deal with liars who will self-report and say, "I swear, my pet was unconverted and you zapped it and now it's converted today when it was supposed to be the way it was!". Knowing their laziness, I suspect they'll either take a really long time to fix this, or offer some half-winged compensation for it instead of find and turn back all of the sufferers.
I bet it's a way for them to show their resentment towards UCs. They'll pretend to scratch their heads and say, "But converted pets are so much better; now you can dress your new pet up in the NC mall! By the way, did you see the new capsule? You're welcome."
