It's interesting how life priorities change with time and technology

I'm in the hideous process of moving. With that comes the inevitable task of going through all. the. shit. that I, at some point in my life, figured "hey, this would be a good thing to buy!"

I tend to buy books, movies, and music that I like. I've loved reading ever since I was young and I always wanted my very own mini library to show off. However, as I packed my fifth box of books, I came to a new realization:

I DON'T NEED ALL OF THIS!

With modern technology, I don't need any of this to be honest. Whatever I want to read, I can find on Amazon Kindle. Whatever movie I want to watch, I can stream on Netflix or elsewhere. Whatever music I want, I can listen to on Spotify or YouTube. Time's changed and so should I.

I'm not going to become a minimalist but it's time to let go of stuff. A whole lot of stuff. It feels great and I idk, I just wanted to share this turning point with someone.

Also, by writing this I escaped packing for 5 minutes. I am gonna check neo and escape for another 5 but I really should go back to packing now soon

I totally relate. After moving 4 times within 3 years in the one town (employer provided housing, so no choice), I sold the majority of my physical library. I only kept my plays, as many theatre texts aren't easy to find, and rare/autographed books. Just make sure you keep a backup, in case of loss or drive failure.

Ain't that the truth! We had 3 bookcases, double stacked with books plus heaps of box sets of our favourite shows etc. We had to do one really big move and it was going to cost around $1000 to move the books and bookcases alone. We kept our favourites and donated the rest. Felt really good afterwards!

All this post did is make me realize I could live as a minimalist.

All I really need is clothes, electronics and other regular household supplies.

lmfao thats how i felt moving out of my childhood home. luckily for me my dad still lives there so i could put off throwing things out and just left some there, but afterwards i moved like 3 times in the last 4 years and every time i cleared my shit out i was just like... why LOL

still doesnt stop me from keeping it "just in case"..... ive started having to force myself to throw out mail thats delivered to my current house thats meant for the previous tenants -____- i kept it in a drawer until like a week ago "just in case"..... just in case what?? its not fucking for me

No keep the books I like the idea of your very own library to show off.

in the end no one ever knew what the outcome would be. So I guess you have to do your best to make a decision that you wont regret.
