Complaining about Neopets? Neopets 2005 vs Neopets 2017

People complaining about Neopets are super annoying. These people either did not play the game back when it was booming, or they did and they are just plain ignorant.

The people running this game have obviously downsized by a lot, so what do you expect? The same content quality and amount of content we received 10 years ago? Let's be real.

And hearing people say that this is broken and that's also broken... the (massive) game was recently acquired by a different company/group. For these new owners and programmers, it will take time to adapt to the existing website/code/framework/structure ex-TNT has built over the years. This is how a company works...

Please, at least appreciate what was previously built and still functions/exists today for everyone. At least we aren't forced to pay for much of the features we received in the past. And the new owners are definitely making progress on adapting to the website code and delivering new content. Glad they aren't following the steps of certain companies today (*cough* EA *cough*)

But Neopets is dying..?

The game is massive. There's always going to be someone restocking, playing games, collecting avatars, training their pet, etc. etc. I've been hearing this since 2009 and here we are still pushing thousands of sales per year on the black market. Let's appreciate what we have.

Yes, I can understand expressing your thoughts on artwork or a new game... That's called critiquing and I bet the artists and developers want that.

But when you're shitposting on Neopets every so often? Why are you even here?

i honestly just feel bad for the Neopets team because they've gone through two acquisitions in a fairly short amount of time and they are very obviously understaffed.
on top of that, Neopets is a huge site!! if it weren't so huge it would be a lot easier to update and bring up to modern standards. i've often thought it would be easier if they cut out a lot of the content just to update the site. i'd be fine with it if they intended to add it back eventually.
but as it is... it has to be a nightmare trying to update everything, AND stay up to speed with new content, holidays, new plots, the NC mall, a million tickets, etc.

Say it again! They clearly don�t have the amount of staff these days they used to have, obviously Neo isn�t as popular as it was during its prime, we should be lucky it�s still around! I�ve been playing since the beginning and it warms my nerdy little heart some effort is still being made to keep it alive c:

The understaffing is what sucks the most to see. I never played pre-viacom so I certainly can’t speak for the changes that acquisition brought but the Jumpstart hand over was wild. I remember the drama over long time staff members suddenly “retiring” and ticket answers came less and less often. I follow a few old neopets artists that have moved on. So much stuff is just outsourced and undermanned. When the CEOs of these companies make millions and millions a year it makes the situation look even worse. It’s nowhere near as bad as it could be, and (oh god suddenly can’t remember the name but the new TNT person who’s name starts with an S) feels like a great step forward— I can only hope JS continues in this direction.

Also MAN if it does get as bad as coughspooncough says I wish the neo community was more unified. Have a little boycott until JS hires permanent staff where people don’t buy NC or premium for a month or something. It’d probably backfire BUT hey this is all a neopets chat forum ain’t it :p

The conversion to HTML is probably the most important task that they're trying to complete. Flash is about to be extinct soon and browsers nowadays automatically disables flash which pushes away the less technically inclined users. Once the site is converted and there is a fully functional mobile version I'm sure the new owners will have an easier time fixing some of the perpetually broken features like the BD, Key Quest, DoN etc.

I agree, the "Neopets is dying" sentiment has been expressed longer than ck has even been around. It goes back to darkztar, hiddenbelow, gaminggutter, and beyond I'm sure -- that's as far back as I go though In order for it to move forward it would need to bring about some sort of fantastic new feature to attract new players. Right now they are just trying to pump out content to appease the current player base and that's proving to be a bit of a challenge. What they could do is open it up to the players actually helping out. Have people apply to be judges and have them judge the user submitted areas of the site - Neopian Times, Poetry Contest, Random Contest, Beauty Contest, etc etc. This would free up their creative members to develop new content for the rest of the site. I'm sure it's easier said than done, but:

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

We've had a lot of the same for quite awhile now, maybe it's time they shake things up a little bit.

Oh man, have you ever seen the NC boards? You'd have the people who stuck with the boycott and then the people who didn't and want 1000 caps for the LE items they bought during the boycott. Struggles haha

I kind of like how even though this is a "cheating" site, there is still lots of respect for the game itself.
