    Has anyone had a Tonsillectomy?

If so, how long did it take for you to recover?
    How old were you?
    What method was it?
Did you have any post-op bleeding during recovery?

I just had mine done about 7 days ago and I've been having bleeding issues with the scabs falling off during days 6 & 7. I had the coblation method and im 25.

No, but I need one because I have a bad case of chronic tonsil stones.

I've had mine taken out. The first 24 hours after were horrible, I sneezed the day after and tore some stitches which resulted in a trip back to A&E.

I was 15 so it was 11 years ago. They say that the older you are the worse the after effects are. My dad has his removed 2 weeks ago and he was in agony with his ears for a week.

Are you eating normally or sticking to soft foods? I was given bread and crisps etc to eat to scrape down the dead blood cells.

I got mine removed when I was 12.
I was put under and woke up with a real sore throat.

My diet consisted of Gatorade, popsicles, soups, and pudding and I got to stay home all week and play Neopets & The Sims.

It was a real good experience for me as a kid. I didn't experience bleeding or anything.

Recovery for me was 1 - 2 weeks.

I had my tonsils and adenoids removed at 25. It fucked me up pretty badly. It was about 3 weeks before I could have normal foods, and my sense of taste was changed for a couple of months afterwards. Water and, much to my horror, steak, tasted weird and unpleasant. While stuck with pudding, I fantasised about a delicious steak, and when I finally had one it was all weird. I was so glad when it came back to normal.

You should call the ENT office and make sure the bleeding is expected!

I had stones only in my right tonsil. It sucked having to pluck them out every 2-3 days. Now I no longer have to worry! It's taken me 9 days to feel normal (since the surgery). So as long as you're willing to suck up to the 9 days of misery, its too too shabby. I'd do it sooner than later tho, i'm 25 and it was 'bearable'.

Been sticking to apple sauce, jello, yogurt, ramen, mac & cheese, cream of wheat.

Nice! Sounds like a pretty simple recovery for you!

I just had the same thing done too and I'm also 25 Katie! Did you have electrocautery? I had the coblation technique. I've only had strange ear pain and haven't had any other issues. Sense of taste is still in tact and im craving a truffle mac and cheese.

Called and the minor bleeding is normal when the scabs come off. (Although I think mine came off prematurely).

Was never quite steak only, but yeah, taste came back after a few months. These days I don't have beef anyway, as kangaroo is 1/3 the calories.

Yeah, I had the electrocautery. Didn't have any ear pain that I remember, but it doesn't surprise me since that's all so connected. I'm glad that your taste didn't get fucked- that was really shit.
