Did Neopets reset a bunch of passwords between 2013 and now?

I just checked the list of shells I have, including some nice ones I was using for storage... On over 90% the password no longer works. I got access to a grand total of two empty shells. Anyone else run into something like this?

Its probably someone just securing them honestly. I believe they did do some sort of a password change but I only had pre-2013 accounts affected.

It's possible, but I'm not sure if they reset passwords on inactive accounts; it seems counterintuitive for all the players that might come back, even for accounts that are in purge range, since I believe there's some sort of warning for those. My original account (now one of my sides) wasn't subject to a password reset even if it was vacant between 2008 and 2014.

If they're accounts you bought on here, then I'd recommend contacting whoever you bought them from.
Otherwise, open a ticket and hope you can supply enough information for TNT to reset your password for you so you can get back in.

They have, twice if I'm remembering correctly. Made big public statements about the DB leak back in 2013 and said they would be resetting the passwords of all inactive accounts.

Edit1: And yes, if you didn't have access to the emails on the accounts whose passwords were reset, you were screwed. I lost a bunch of accounts because I was dumb and didn't ensure I had access to all my emails.

Edit2: To further clarify, all they did was remove the passwords of the accounts completely, they didn't just revert them to old passwords. The only way into accounts which were reset is to send an "I forgot my password" email to the attached email address and create a password from there.

Thanks for the replies! I feel like I got some closure.

I was thinking the list I bought might have been sold to someone else originally (seller is banned, not sure when or why) but on some where I know I changed the password I was still locked out. I also got locked out of accounts owned before even knowing about this site. I didn't think ahead enough to set up emails for every account and of all the hotmail and yahoo accounts I had I'm getting security questions asked now. I don't know how my main wasn't affected by all this!

Just one additional point, if you login to multiple accounts with the wrong password and from the same IP eventually TNT will block you from logging in for a while. Depending on the amount of shells you have If the first half were wrong, it might not mean that the second half don't work.
