I think that in their case its fine to target both kids and adults. I believe kids can enjoy it too in fact lots of older players started on the site as kids. No need to freeze someone just for saying a single word when they did not mean to come across as swearing or threatening, thats the problem

To me, Neopets can definitely come across as a mini-dictatorship.

I recently canceled my premium subscription. In my explanation for why, I said something "Most of the folks on Neopets these days are young adults. It isn't fun to be treated and reprimanded like a child. Cater to young adults and more people will join." They most likely won't give a shit what I think, but I hope that if they'll listen to any feedback, it is when someone is canceling a paid subscription.

Edit: not that I'm against kids being on the site too. TBH I don't know what the solution is to cater to all ages, but that isn't my job it is JS's job.

I think they should just make another puzzle and battledome plot. That would cater to everyone and make everything all better again

I agree with you. I don't think there are any users around there younger than 15. I'm 19 years old and I feel like one of the youngest users around.

I think they should have an option that if you can verify that you're over 18 or agree, you can not necessarily NC-17 it, but maybe rated R? Forums, block your petpage/lookup text? I'd even pay for something like that. I came back recently and was revamping petpages/lookups and it wouldn't let me save anything that had the word "kill" in it, even though they were there before. Or a petpage credit link to something like "Trapezz" wouldn't go through because "rape" was in it.

I wish they adjust the filter to not filter their own item's name really.

Bec hit the nail on the head. JumpStart is a kids company. It's their area of focus, specialty, etc. From the "about us" section of the Jump Start website:

Jumpstart.com is certified by the kidSAFE Seal Program. The kidSAFE Seal Program is an independent certification service and seal program that reviews and certifies the safety practices of children-friendly websites and applications, including kid-targeted game sites, virtual worlds, social networks, PC and mobile apps, web-connected devices, and other similar online and interactive products.
JumpStart is a company who's sole focus is to produce kid friendly gaming experiences. Basically, as long as JumpStart owns Neopets, it will be a website for children only.

I doubt that'd do any good considering a majority of the adults playing Neopets are behaving like 13yo kids.

It would be nice if they would lighten the fuck up. I don't think the site needs to be full of swearing or anything but having a normal adult human conversation about real life would be nice without getting silenced once in a while. Sometimes you just happen upon a good convo about anything really and then next thing you know the fucking board is gone over one dumb ass thing a mod decided wasn't allowed on that random day.
