can I block myself from seeing certain user's avatars on here?

You can also disable displaying user avatars (you need an account to see links), under "display thread options" (or something like that, too tired)
Or use an Adblocker to block that specific image using a network or aesthetic filter, which is what I'd personally do (and have done before,) as blocking someone just because you don't like their avatar or find it a little bit disturbing doesn't seem fair/"right" e.e
The ignore feature is there for those times when you simply can't stand what that user posts xD

I can't even tell what it is from how small the image is... But you can definitely right click on the image and add it to your block list (with your fav. AdBlock extension).

If you have no AdBlock extension then I must say your browsing experience online must suck.

Right, let's not ask the one [new] user to change their avatar even when it is obviously problematic with many.

I prefer to disable Adblock on clraik so I can help monetize the site.

@(you need an account to see links) Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it possible to block a single thing using Adblock without blocking the rest of the ads? I've used it for getting rid of the hashtag suggestions on Twitter.
