I'm going to take a wild guess and say that a crack version of a paid VPN does not work as you might think it would.

Connect again and check your IP using ipleak.net. IP Leak is about the most comprehensive check that I've found you can do to assure a VPN is working absolutely perfectly. Check all of the leaks it probes for, a lot of 'free/cracked' VPNs will still leak your DNS which basically means you aren't protected.

I'll just say this: TOR browser bundle + dnsleak.com or dnsleaktest.com, but for God's sake... Don't use one of your previous usernames+a random number at the end *facedesk* (not even palm, desk (ಠ_ಠ)).
If you wanna be extra careful, you can combine TOR with a VPN as well.
