    Favorite dystopian/utopian movies?

I watch these like crazy but I prefer movies that are newer like 2000s. What are some of the best dystopian or utopian or even post-apocalyptic movies?

The Handmaid's Tale is one of my favourite novels, and it's set in a dystopian US. A movie was made a while ago that isn't too bad, but Hulu is doing a TV series of it this year that looks like it could be incredible. 1984 is another classic.

    12 Monkeys.
    Children of Men.
    V for Vendetta.
    Gattaca.
    The Fifth Element.
Idiocracy (comedy, unlike all these dramas).
Battle Royale (in Japanese, but don't let subtitles put you off- it's amazing!).

Those are all ones that I enjoyed, but there are many others. Especially since the dystopian genre in Young Adult literature is so popular at the moment, so there are things like Hunger Games, Divergent, Maze Runner, I Am Number Four etc.

I haven't read The Handmaid's Tale which is surprising because I like Margaret Atwood. I've seen all the movies you've mentioned except Battle Royale and Gattaca but I was thinking of watching Gattaca the other day so it'll be the next on my list!

Equilibrium is one of my favorites.
Mad Max: Fury Road is semi recent and entertaining.

I also second 3% and Black Mirror as far as shows go.

oh gosh! Battle Royale blew me away! I had not expected anything that good. Go see it. It was a big influence on Quentin Tarantino.. so much so that he hired an actress from Battle Royale to be in Kill Bill Vol 1

I like I Robot. Will Smith is so funny in it.

A scanner darkly, Honestly the book is much better than the movie.. I recommend the book..

Read the silo series as well.. Ditch movies, read books.

I gotta say, i do feel that the hunger games is ridiculously close to what Battle Royale is, but i love reading/watching the hunger games books and movies.
