Yes, he should pay or at least offer to pay for it. If she don't want you to pay for her, split the bills. You can offer to pay for the first date then she pay for the second.
my partner and i rotate who pays for meals that we eat together. i pay for one, he pays for the other and so on. birthdays and pizza are the only exceptions to that. i think, in general, it really depends on the situation and person. if i knew someone before going to eat with them or on a date, i wouldn't mind paying, but someone i was not familiar with i might want them to pay for me because i'm cheap at hell. 0:^)

it's the gentlemanly thing to do
I'm always offering to chip in, but mostly he refuses that. I think he should definitely pay the first couple of dates!
I think whoever initiated the date should pay.
Did the man ask the woman? He pays.
Did the woman ask the man? She pays.

Not sure if this video has been posted here or not but I like the way this guy puts it:
He does make some pretty good points. I like being able to look at things from different perspectives and this guy definitely answers that question from a different perspective. Definitely interesting.
EDIT: It was actually posted on the first page - I just hadn't seen it before

I used to be really set in my ways, seeing things one way and sort of keeping the blinders on. I realized I was doing that though and have sinced tried to see things from different perspectives and it's definitely interesting.
Case & point - that video - "the moment you do that, you are saying that my time is more valuable than yours". That's an interesting way of looking at things and I'm sure once put that way, the lady who originally asked the question in that video felt rather silly haha
