Udyr Basics
Udyr doesn't have an Ult.
Q W E R are all different fight modes for him.
No matter what skin you use, they do the same thing (but I prefer the Definitely Not Udyr skin)..

In-Depth Attacks

Q: Generally, this is attack speed boost and physical damage boost. (Tiger)
W: This is the shield and lifesteal. (Turtle)
E: This is the stun and movement speed boost. (Bear)
R: This is the magic damage pulse and every 3 basics = cone of magic damage. (Phoenix)

Udyr is AD Tank most often. He is frequently used as a Jungler.
He's super annoying to play against because once you start chasing him, he can just continuously press 'E' to speed up every few seconds.

When deciding what to max out first, it is usually situational. I generally like to max E first, then increase R, Q, and W at similar rates.

It is important to remember that certain forms only give certain benefits right when being activated.

So, when you activate Q, you gain bonus attack speed for 5 seconds and then the persistent effect is 15% increased attack damage.
When you activate W, you are shielded for 5 seconds, and you gain the ability to lifesteal.
With E, whenever you basic attack someone, you stun them, but you don't get a movement speed boost and are not ghosted unless you activate E again (lasts 2-3 seconds).
With R, you do little pulses of magic damage for 5 seconds, but after that you just have a "third basic attack deals extra damage". And a cone of fire.

If you are using Udyr as your Jungler, you want to max Phoenix, Bear, and Tiger, and then settle with what is left in Turtle. He also clears minions very fast with Phoenix and Tiger together.
However, since Udyr is completely melee-based, ganking can be a challenge.
The turtle stance is important for ganking in order to reduce damage from the enemy as you try to gap-close.

Udyr relies heavily on movement speed and defense. He is easily kited by ranged champions.

Early-game Udyr needs mana and mana regen, but as it happens, it becomes less of a problem late-game.

Frozen Heart is usually a must-have item along with heavy armors like Deadman's Plate, Spirit Visage, Warmog's, Thornmail, or Sunfire.
I suggest going Frozen Heart, Sunfire, Warmogs, if you need to. Switch around based on the opposing team's composition.

The Black Cleaver is a good item to have because of Damage over Time.

  • Keep your spells to Ignite and possibly Teleport if you're Top with Udyr.
  • Or Ignite and Smite
  • Don't focus on building HP, but DO focus on building armor and resistance.
  • If in ARAM, definitely get Snowball and Flash and build full tank.

He's easy to get used to. Give him a shot! Not many people do.
