hmm not sure about a contest. She was signed to a music label when she was only 14 years old and released her first album when she was 16. She's very talented. Although i can think of quite a few artists that were on talent shows in the UK and became popular despite not winning. Actually i think you are more likely to become popular if you dont win the show, as if you win you are forced to sign to the label of the show, which usually dont treat artists very well.

She actually does quite a lot for her fans and donates a lot to charities and schools also.
