    麻布
Chinese words, but also can be Kanji (Japanese)
I'm guessing in this context it's Japanese since it's Japanese words on the package.

麻布 is Azabu, a district in Tokyo, Japan.

In the small box in the lower right corner, it says Azabu, then the vertical words かりんと read "Karinto".
The huge cursive scribbles also say Karinto.

    Googling reveals:
Karinto is a traditional Japanese snack food. Sweet and deep-fried, it is made primarily of flour, yeast, and brown sugar. It has a deep brown and pitted appearance, and takes the form of a "bite-sized" pillow or short cylinder. Although traditional karinto is coated with brown sugar, recently other variations appear in the market, such as white sugar, sesame seeds, miso, or peanuts. Azabu Karinto offers a wide range of unique Karinto flavors such as black sugar, apple pie or vegetable mix.

    Mystery solved.

    Applause:

I have seen snacks like that at the local Asian Supermarket (T&T Supermarket). One day I am going to buy one of these weird snacks, there are so many. Those rotten looking cheesedoodles, dried shrimp crackers, mango puffs, various jelly snacks. It is endless. I am always buying the fresh sushi from there so I think I will just go buy something odd and see how it is lol.
