Had to clarify since everyone else is/has gone through so much, and I was just whining about waiting too long for an appointment.

Like everyone is having kids all of a sudden lol

I'm 25 and feel I'm to young for that I want to enjoy life a little maybe in my 30s unless someone steals my heart.

@(you need an account to see links) Sometimes the doctors get sued. You obviously cannot claim for costs unless you went private, but you can still claim for like..the pain you went through and psychological damage along with loss or earnings and such. I have actually been told I would have a case for medical negligence..and could get (likely) between 4k-20k. But I'm battling with my conscience a little as the money would be great for me..but I am always championing the NHS, saying we would be fucked without it, arguing against cuts to it and such, so would feel an absolute hypocrite if I did sue. Though my brother tells me that 20k is a drop in the ocean to the NHS..it goes against everything I believe xD I'm really fighting inside my head though tbh the 'screw it, they broke me completely and could have left the kids without a mother' part is winning more, along with thinking about how much that kind of money could do for us. I mean, if I got the higher end, that would be 5k each in the kids banks, and a nice holiday for us all. My own GP recommended at the very least putting in a complaint about the hospital, as he said no way should all of that stuff have happened. Yeah mistakes are made sometimes, but not that many mistakes and that serious.

Haha. Same here. That and I can barely take care of myself, let alone someone else.

I'm Australian too. There will never be a perfect medical system but medicare is a lot closer to perfection than whatever is happening in the US.
Seeing a GP is free if you find one that bulk bills, but seeing a specialist (such as an endocrinologist) usually costs a bit of money, which they've dubbed "paying the gap". I think thyroxine is covered under PBS (government subsidised medicine) so the maximimum price for 200 tablets is about $35. Blood work and ultrasounds are free too, provided they bulk bill. Most thyroid hormones are covered under PBS, for that matter.

I'm not sure about the emergency systems we have in place. Surgery is something I don't know much of either, but from what I hear. You either choose to add yourself to a long line of people waiting for surgery and hope for the best, or you pay a private specialist to do it which is expensive (but not batshit crazy expensive like it is under the US) if you don't have private insurance.

    Damn US is expensive o_O
I think pretty much everything is free in the UK unless you go to a private doctors or hospital
I get all my dental and prescriptions free coz I'm unemployed atm. Trying to make the most of it while I can :x

The US is making me sad already... I just got here, went in for routine bloodwork two weeks ago and suddenly, bye bye money. I miss the NHS.

as a walking medical emergency, i can confirm its the best thing in my life right now

i was born with a busted thyroid, fucked up lungs, bad immune systems, the works. my familys always been poor as shit so free healthcare when my runt ass got popped out was a blessing, i was never out the hospital.

now ive got severe hypochondria, so im always at the doctors like "ive got this cut on my arm from god knows what, does it look like cancer to you?" and dont need to worry myself about the cost. wasting peoples time is another story though. i mean, they know its a mental illness thing and i really cant help it, but still i feel bad. id feel worse if i had to pay tho LOL.

on top of that, i need a steady dose of thyroxine, zoloft, inhalers, anti-allergen, acne medication, and i need a testosterone injection in my ass every month. every week or two i need blood tests to make sure my thyroid and testosterone levels arent secretly killing me. none of those things are cheap!
did i mention i got my titties off on the nhs? id have never have lost them if the nhs hadnt covered it, because the cost is just too much. i cant afford anything i need to be Trans and without any of it id have offed myself years ago.

the nhs is sort of a bunch of bullshit and d*vid c*meron is out to fist it the best he can but in my case its a lifesaver ^_____^
