My laptop is on about 24/7. I'm so scared that one day it will explode

It seems to be a lot healthier for the computer overall in the long run, or at least for its battery.
I've gotten into the habit of running CCleaner and then shutting it down completely between sessions, usually right before I go to bed. It keeps things tidy.

It's always better to shut down when you're not doing anything. It doesn't really does any damage if you turn it on 24/7, unless you run it for a very long time or youre running a lot of programs/tasks, I usually shut down my lappy once every 2-4 weeks.

I get better buy times I feel after shutting down my computer. I mean, I clear cookies and what not after signing out of each account. But shutting it down for a lil and restarting is a GREAT idea!

Some OSs only check for updates upon restarting, so I think it's important to do so every so often. Similar question: if you use Chrome, do you restart it when you notice it needs to be updated?

I have had the same version of Chrome running for three-ish months. In that time, I have not shut down my main desktop or browser, and everything seems to still run smoothly. I do shut down my laptop, but that's because I take it with me to classes and such

I always shut my computers down daily. You'll get many more years out of your CPU if you do. Cell phones were designed and engineered to be on 24/7, so it doesn't matter if you leave them on or off.

so I didn't know the answer to this at first. I usually shut down my PC after every use. so I did some googling and I found this:

(you need an account to see links)

it's a good and very informative read...
if you don't feel like reading to make everything short and cute
it's not recommended to always turn your pc on and off because it causes wear to the mechanics of the PC and an occasional restart is recommended to ensure integrity of your operation system. it's recommended to leave your pc to sleep when not in use
