How to automatic sync between my hard drive and my external hard drive?

I know I can copy and paste the new files from my HD to my external HD. but it just takes lot of work. Is there a way to automatic sync between my hard drive and my external hard drive everytime I plug in my external hard drive?

I think a scheduled task should be enough? Create a .bat or .cmd with the xcopy command (if you're on windows) if that doesn't work idk maybe find some software that does it for you? XD
The only times I have to worry about syncing is with my Dropbox and my iPod D:
