The only shiny Pokemon I ever caught aside from the typical ones (like shiny Gyarados in gen 2) was a Zubat in Pokemon Leaf Green.

Currently soft resetting for lugia and reshiram in oras but once I have those ill have completed my shiny dex.
Obviously pokemon that are shiny locked (celebi and other legends) don't count.

Is Masuda method quicker than the Friend Safari?

I don't think it's quicker but you have more control over what comes out.

benefits of masuda: you control the species, stats, moves, etc
benefits of friend safari: significantly faster, chance of getting a hidden ability, pokemon always have at least 2 max IVs

    hope that helps
