It's a great little story: it's definitely worth spending the (very insubstantial) time it takes to read it. Not only is it a glimpse into an oft-forgotten part of American history, it also quite easily ranks among the most emotionally gripping books I've read.

I had to read that my sophomore year of high school. It was alright, for an assigned reading. I still have the book somewhere thanks to my dog who decided to chew it up so I couldn't give it back and instead had to pay for it.

I thought that book was one of the more interesting required reads in high school. I kind of liked it.
