I've never been myself though I know a couple of people who have. I dunno, I wasn't that sold on it from their description, there didn't seem to be a load of stuff to do there and it's not exactly cheap once you're there either.

I'm not exactly looking for Disneyland. I know there is a lot of cultural heritage there - in fact, I've studied it for the past few years, myself - and I know that it is one of the most naturally beautiful countries in the world.

Most of all, I need somewhere peaceful, to take my mind of my summative essays for a while.

Also, money isn't really a problem.

Yeah I got that, but without wanting to be too facetious, Iceland is like Scandinavia but further away. And its buildings, particularly in the capital, tend to be more American than European. I'm hoping to do a fair bit of Sweden this summer.

I have heard good things about a national park in iceland though, think it was called thinvelir or something like that. Has some lovely natural sights there.

It's not actually that much further, really! True, I'm very close to Sweden, though: I live in the north-east.

To me, Iceland is at least a little more disconnected from the European norm - it is literally disconnected, after all. I've never heard any comparisons to America before, that sounds very bizarre to me: I suppose it is hard to escape the grasp of globalisation, however.

Yeah the American thing is mostly in Reykjavik because of the big expansion post-ww2. Whereabouts are you going from?

I'd be going from Newcastle Airport, but I live in Durham.

    Also, why not?

I love the cold. Greenland would be amazing, too, but that is deserving of a longer, more dedicated trip.
