Manicure & Nail Art Thread

We have threads for all sorts of art so I thought it'd be fun to have one for nail art too! Do you prefer standard nail polish or gel polish? Do you paint them yourself, or do you like having them done? Any favorite brands, colors, or techniques?

Here’s one of mine from earlier in the year to get us started. I used Favorite Sister and Gift Receipt by Holo Taco. It was my first time using a dotting tool for lettering. I’m still a beginner, but I have really enjoyed picking this hobby up on the side. Having pretty nails adds a pep to my step! ^^

@(you need an account to see links) Yes to inspo!!! 😍 That pearlescent white on the first white leopard mani is so shiny. And the elegance on the second one! I'll always be in the short nail club but wow, that matte black meets leopard prints looks super nice. I've been seeing more of that almost comic book nail design. Imagine if there was it a glow in the dark overlay between the pink and the black!

I recently started getting my nails done on a regular basis again. I used to swear by gel manicures, but I recently tried dip polish and I've only done it twice so far, but I've loved it. I tend to go for glittery/shiny in colors like purple or blue or teal.

Omg I looove having my nails done, it's one of those "treat yoself" confidence/mood boosters that I live for but getting manicures done professionally as yall know is such a drain on the wallet and I only really do regular creme polishes at home and they don't last nearly as long - not that gel/dip powder or even acrylic lasts that long on my nails either T_T I am "blessed" with biology where my nails repel eeeeeeverything no matter how much prep/groundwork you do... I can peel gel polish off my nails after like a week and it's so sad to just see money burning essentially haha. But I really like dip powder because it makes my nails super hard (for like the first two weeks) and I have extremely thin/bendy nails so boy do I need it. xD I hope to one day be able to find a nail tech I can go to regularly! The last time I got my nails done like a month ago for a wedding, it was such a horrible experience (I was at a random salon out of town but they took me with no appointment close to the end of the day so I guess I can't complain) but the guy literally made my cuticles bleed THREE different times and I was just so shell shocked I sat there in silent agony... 🙃 The next time I do my nails (I'm a big Holo Taco fan) or get them done I'll be sure to take a pic!

@(you need an account to see links) omg trying the dip made my nails so much stronger! Normally they break pretty easily, but my nails got to be the longest they've ever been in my life after the dip powder. I ended up getting fed up and trying to trim the most annoying ones myself and then a couple of them broke anyway.

I realize this is not very long in the grand scheme of nails, but it was long for me!


Also I just noticed the filter I used cut off part of my thumbnail but too lazy to fix it.

@(you need an account to see links) that's such a pretty color, I love it!! and honestly that feels like a good nail length to me - I have friends who are super into the maximalist decora style for nails (what's trendy in asia/has been trendy in japan for years now) and their nails are 1. soooo long and 2. covered in large, protruding or hanging decorations and I'm like 😵 how the fuck do you do anything with those nails lol!

@(you need an account to see links) Thank you! This was right after I got them done and let them grow about a bit further, but then it pretty quickly grew fully crossed into Too Much zone.
I've seen pictures of nails like that and they seem fun for a photoshoot or like a wearable art thing, but would drive me batty in everyday life! With the nails pictured above I kept making typos and kept flubbing day-to-day things that needed fine motor skills. Plus, I was constantly scrubbing with the nail brush because it got icky, as cool as decorations are, I'm not sure if I'd ever feel clean without accidentally breaking the things off. But they are pretty!

Since I'm not the only HT fan here I figured it was topical to share this! I'm also a big Safiya Nygaard fan and although I haven't had time for a while to keep up with Cristine's videos, I still watch every video Safiya puts out, and of course I had to give this a watch! It's so fun to see them collab together and man I wish I was in Raleigh for some of that gorgeous polish. 🤩 Anyone else have thoughts on the Safiya x Holo Taco collab set? Honestly if I had more disposable income right now I'd probably want to splurge on it, darker shades are definitely my jam and there are some gorgeous colors there!
