I spilled nail polish remover over the laptop I'm using right now my junior year of high school.
It was dead for three solid years, no life whatsoever, but I kept it in my closet *just in case.* Last year I pulled it out, tried turning it on, and BAM, turned on and worked PERFECTLY. not a problem and been using it again for almost a year now...
moral of the story, don't throw out your laptops prematurely x) and also don't paint your nails near your laptops either...
