This is the only thing that came to mind!

    What's my definition of success?
Creating something no one else can
Being brave enough to dream big
Grindin' when you're told to just quit
Giving more when you got nothin' left

I kind of made an ass of myself today. I know y'all aren't surprised.

Last week in one of my required, non-major classes we played Jeopardy based off of material we were to have read before class. I was the only person who did the reading and some classmates cheated. My group won because I beasted everyone else. Today -- a class period early -- we drafted teams for a group project. People volunteered to be "pickers" to choose their teammates. The class is 40+ in terms of populous. So I was the "draft pick." I had wanted to work with some of the folks from my Jeopardy team because we'd discussed it already (I like them because they'll take the first slot and I prefer to get that shit over with).

So my classmates and professor saw the frustration on my face because people that I don't know whatsoever were adamant about having me on their team. and the poor guy -- who seems intelligent -- that drafted me tried to be reassuring. He also chose two classmates that I think aren't competent for his team (and a gal who is pretty sharp). During the picking my professor had encouraged me to talk to her after class. I wasn't going to, as I'm not going to whine and insist on getting put with a different team, especially considering that everyone had to go through this process. My newly-acquired friends wanted me to have the after class session, but I'm not that big of a douche.

At the end of the draft the professor asked if anyone was unhappy with their current team. I raised my hand. She asked which team I wanted to be on and why. I said which one and because we'd already discussed the project.

I didn't dislike the guy who chose me; I also don't blame people for choosing the "smart" kid to be on their team. But in situations like that it seems like the people you pick you either know, respect as students, or want to do the work. Because I was in such high demand, I was frustrated.

The guy who chose me agreed to do the trade if the guy I wanted to work with would give him -- in exchange -- his first two picks (the two girls we wanted to work with). It was harsh. He agreed to do it, which was awful. Then the smart girl that my original picker had drafted said, "if she's uncomfortable, let her go." He did and they agreed on a more reasonable trade.

In retrospect, I'm still an ass for having been the only student to express dissatisfaction with the way teams were arranged. I was also the only student in my particular situation for the event. It would have been nice had the selection process happened before Jeopardy. It would have also been smart of me to volunteer to be one of the students choosing teams to alleviate this entire situation.

I feel pretty bad. Offline (this may be surprising to y'all!) I strive to be considerate of others and their feelings... to the point of typically sacrificing my own desires (but rarely will I sacrifice to the point of dissatisfaction).
