What camera do you like using?

What brand camera do you like using and why?
I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to camera's and I'm looking to purchase one, should I go for Nikon or a Canon?
Need to use it to take photos of the jewelry I make, looking for crystal clear quality photo's when zoomed and that's basically all I'd be using it for. Okay well maybe a sunset shot or two XD
I was thinking of the Nikon D3100 but I've heard that Canons are generally easier to use for beginners. Not really looking to spend a few thousand on it, around $500 would be alright.
    Help c:

Look for the latest and greatest one in your budget (or on sale).

High-spec, loaded feature cameras would be my pick, I don't pay attention to brand as much as what they can do.

(I dropped $300 on this kickass Panasonic back in the day, then HD camera phones came out the next summer and I never used it again; never found a use for zoom. Waste of $300.)

My newest upgrade and by far the best is the Canon 5D Mark III ($3000). Its a huge upgrade from my Canon rebel T2i ($700), which is still handy as a backup for full day photoshoots.

My very first camera is the Canon rebel D1000. For a $400 xmas deal, it was a great camera to start with. Had about 10 megapixels and photos are still clear (while of course, my best camera has double the megapixels and quality, but totally different budget). But that was a few years back, the new Rebel collection is far better and I recommend if youre starting off. Lots of my friends have the rebels as a starter, T2i and onwards has recording function). Latest model is T4i I believe, between $600-700. Check bestbuy or futureshop for more accuracy.

Also are you looking to buy just the body or both lens and body? For beginner its best to go with the full set as the standard built-in lens is already quite good, but buying separate lens is also beneficial depending what you want: zoom, prime, telescopic, macro lens, etc. Personally i just stick with zoom lens since it is sufficient to my needs, but mine was bought separately cus i wanted more DOF/aperture.

Basically 1080p is the the best atm, I believe. That is HD. Though I think there is a better quality one you can get, but it is not public atm.

I started out w/ point and shoots but then migrated to DSLRs. I went straight to Nikon. I got a Nikon D5000 (~$450). I didn't think it was too hard to get used to. A little heavy, that's all. With a little practice, any DSLR is pretty easy to work with if you haven't worked with any before.

I can't go Canon now though. I don't understand them. Plus I like Nikons better anyway.

As for lenses, you can get pretty clear shots w/ the basic lenses. Since they produce such large, high quality pictures, you can easily zoom in to see details. If you're looking to go very close up, however, you might want to invest in a macro lens for your camera, though I don't find them all that necessary. The basic lens that will most likely come w/ the camera you purchase should probably do the job just fine.

I currently use a Cannon eos 600d and its lovely! It isn't too difficult and takes beautifully CRISP pictures~ I dislike Nikon since I find the quality of the picture always seems a little bit less clear then what my cannon can take, I think they feel a bit cheaper and I find my canon feels more sturdy One thing to note if if you plan on using multiple exposure on a Nikon, its called overlay I believe. Just in case you want to take artsy shots.

That reminds me of this pic I saw on 9gag of Canon VS Nikon haha.

But it's really more about personal preference when it comes to the choice of the brand (people are always debating between the two brands, when really both are good; it's just preference).
I personally started with Canon and decided to stick with it since I like it and got used to it.

Thank you, you've all helped out a bunch!!
Going to go with a stock lens, maybe after a while I'll upgrade and experiment but hopefully the lens will already be up to par.
Loving that pic Jacqueline, its super c:

I'm sticking to Sony though a lot of people like those overhyped Cannon.
