I think this is a redox reaction.
Oxidation number of C starts out 4- and becomes 2+.
Oxidation number of H starts out 1+ and becomes 0.

CH4 + H2O <> CO + 3H2
what type of reaction is this? Synthesis, decomp, single displacement, etc?

Methanation reaction?
It would be easier if you listed all possible reaction choices for your question; or the types of reactions you've learned,
because many reaction names overlap or are are sub-classes of other reaction types.
@(you need an account to see links) probably just the basic six types, though it can be open ended.
thanks @(you need an account to see links)! Though I have no idea what redox is. I'll rep you whenever I can rep again =)

do you feel something burning? take a look at your pantsI'm no chemist
I honestly don't know (ashamed).
What I do know is it is definitely not: Synthesis, Decomposition, or Combustion.
Take a gamble on Single or Double Displacement?
If I had to guess, it'd be Single, because H is isolated as a product - but I'm unsure, really.
Are you implying either I have contracted an STI, or that I find you so attractive that I have a boner?
ooh okay thanks.
i'll give you max rep for this and the comment. <3
And no, I'm implying that you're lying cause your pants are on fire.
Ugh you're as SLOW as MOLASSES.
Single replacement is A + BC → B + AC
Double replacement is AB + CD → AD + CB
If that helps at all. @(you need an account to see links) is right about it not being any of the others.
I just don't remember if a reaction can be both single/double as well as a redox reaction.
