At my school, there are security cameras and a guard. If problem is that teachers are now keeping illegal stuff they found in their students' lockers, problem is no more random lockers check, it's teachers... Sometimes cops are searching with dogs to find drugs, how would this be bad?
If you did something you know you shouldn't have done, assume the consequences! Yeah, young people are often idiot, but as soon as they get caught, as soon a lot of them will think twice before doing shit again.

I would prefer to have random locker checks than having a safety risk by administration not being able to do it. Our school has had so many problems....One year bullets were found in the bathroom and the school had a lockdown for hours until every single locker was checked. We have had countless bomb scares and even threats from a previous student teacher. I dont think anyone would do anything now...since we are in a new school..but if something did occur, locker checks are a harmless way to ensure safety. I dont agree with it being "a violation of privacy" 1. YOU do not own the locker...the school does.. 2. Why the hell are you bringing drugs and weapons to school...(one time I brought an exacto knife...but that was to cut nail art sticks up) so I dont mind them and actually prefer them to happen

we also have security cameras everywhere xD! but the music room got broken into....and the office did also and they took the tv that the cameras were displayed on...but I dont know why they were not able to check the security cameras since they have been installed since we moved to the new school building

I think if the school wants to check a locker then they should be allowed to. There is no real reason for them not to be able to. What would there be in a locker that is something they don't want to show to anyone, chances are that if they have something like this then it is illegal and if so then the locker check was successful and the student should be punished, if not then I don't think there is anything that is so personal that if a teacher checks it he would be sad or something. The reason they do it is for our own safety and to see if the students aren't hiding anything illegal so why not check them out. If there is something personal keep it at home
    This is just my opnion.

I think that for the safety of the majority you do need to invade the privacy of a few, but where do you draw the line and who should judge that? You need someone who is independent of all forms of power, can't be bribed and someone who doesn't make mistakes. I don't think that there is a human being that can fill all categories without the slightest bit of bias.

I really don't like the idea of invading anyone's privacy, but if a student at a school has a gun is his locker should you protect his privacy and let him keep it there and possibly use the gun at school in future.

Also if you are a student at school, what should you have to hid in a locker? Porn, Illegal Drugs, A Gun?
None of which should be acceptable at school

If you are going to school and using there locker's than you are really subject to any rules that they may have.

I think that random locker check should be mandatory, students should have nothing to be worried about unless they have something in there locker that should be there.

If you where stay at my house i would like to know if you have a gun under your pillow or not.

My school doesn't really have security guards o_0
Well we kind of do, but they sit in the office all day till a teacher calls in and says they need one cause of a student getting out of control or for a really stupid reason.

My school never does locker checks, but I think they have the right to do so. We don't have guards either.. but we do have random days when a drug dog comes. That's not really helpful though because no one is dumb enough to bring drugs to school. So yeah, I think checking lockers is a good thing to do because students could be hiding anything in there and it's the school's property. Now checking backpacks... that's another story......

When you're 14 you need an invasion of privacy sometimes. lol. I'll damn well be checking my daughter's phone, IMs and stuff occasionally, and I don't think there's anything wrong with a school checking her locker(I don't plan on her ever going to a public school but if she does) because that's just keeping her in line AND helping to keep her safe. If she doesn't like it, oh well.

I would say it is a safety precaution. It is, after all, better to be safe than sorry if something happens, like if theres a bomb or something stuffed in a kid's locker. It would not really be an invasion of privacy...what would there be in ur locker that would be private? But random locker checks?...thats pointless. I would only support the locker checks that are from evidence. The school does have a right to check the lockers...they are part of school property, but the kids have a right to have privacy on their belongings.

By law (at least here) they have every right to do this. The reason being that the storage used is located on their premises. The student is like the tenant of the locker, and the school is the landlord who owns and has rights over it. While they can't search it without having reason for suspicion, they don't have to jump through hoops to ensure their students safety.

I'm not a parent, but my younger brother and I are 11 years apart. I helped raise him, changed his nappies, bathed him, played with him, fed him and generally did a good proportion of the grunt work in raising him. I adore my brother and he's going to be starting at a new school soon. If I heard that his safety would be in jeopardy at that place, I'd be second in line behind our mother to protect him.

I don't think it's really violating privacy. If they searched a student's room, I'd say that that is a violation of privacy. School lockers are private property and I can't imagine anyone keeping anything particularly personal at school.
