Hi!
After recent incidents, Abby and I have decided to put together a semi helpful guide. Complete with examples from the neoboards, we’ve outlined a few things even the newest pet buyer should know. It’s mainly the major mistakes we’ve seen on the boards, and a few links to helpful guides for the problem if we know they exist. The little description blurbs in blue are written by myself, and the pink spoilers are the work of Abby.
Ana’s advice: if you’re sensitive, don’t open the spoilers.
I think we'll keep this as an ongoing thing. If you have anything you want added, or have any questions, feel free to send me a PM or skype message ^.^
DO wait for your pet to cache
PCers are not stupid. The most common thing for a bored PCer to do nowadays is to go check the cache of whichever UC pet they’re jealous of. If you don’t know anything about caches, Katzes and Latte have a useful guide (you need an account to see links)
DON’T post on the boards. At all. Even if it’s not your active pet. This is the most common downfall of buyerw. You will find yourself called out and then the PC Police will have a party with a new pet to discuss. There are people who just spend time looking at your profile if you post on the board. Don’t want to get called out? Then don’t post.
If you really must post on the boards, take a look at Latte and Mint’s guide (you need an account to see links)
DO come up with a trading history.
Details are everything. If you can spew out a random trading history, if they try to trace it it'll be so convoluted since pets are traded around so often and they're getting iced. And then stick to it. Save it in a word doc if you must. Don't let tripping up on your story be your downfall.
Younger accounts with UCs are always under suspicion. The assumption is your account too young to have been around when the conversion happen, and you’re not good enough to have traded up. Save yourself some work and just find an older account.
DON'T use the adoption story or say you caught it in the pound
NO ONE pounds their UC. So don’t go calling attention to yourself by posting a board going “OMG I just caught this amazing pet in the pound” And very few people do adoptions either. If you’re going to “adopt” your new UC, make sure your app is amazing, or people will call foul play.
DO remove the most obvious traces of you buying your UC from the forum.
People do lurk our site. As proved by Panther. Someone's going to mention that they saw a UC Plushie Gnorbu with the exact same name format on sale right around the time you got yours. Don’t make your life any harder by having that extra information lying around.
DO find/create people who can vouch for this "trade".
The more people who witness it, the more legit it seems. And not shells. Make up the people if you need to. Go have a group of mains, have them post a whole bunch on the boards, then have them vouch for it.
DO make the "side account" that your pet appeared from look similar to your main.
And as legit as possible. No one's buying that you just wanted to say you were from China on your side when your main says USA. And when that side account’s a shell? Not a chance. There are plenty of easy avatars for you to get, and slap on a userlookup on that account. Grab a few DN/WN pets too.
Oops, you’ve been caught, now what?
Abby and I aren’t planning on covering that, and I don’t think Abby’s sarcasm would go well in a guide for that.
But I recommend you take a look at Olivehead’s thread, you will find it useful (you need an account to see links)
As well as Swampfox’s guide (you need an account to see links)
