With that budget, I would get a desktop as they will last longer (like 10x the lifetime of a laptop) unless you need it to be a portable computer.
Otherwise, go with ASUS but don't get an ATI graphics card.

I'm currently an ASUS owner and it's been with me for 5 years and through that time, I never needed to reformat it and it still works pretty well. Though I had to upgrade the RAM, the built-in video card is good for gaming as I've played LoL, HoN, WoW, Cabal, RF Online, The Sims, AoM, Civilization, Red Alert, Starcraft, etc. I've never tried Assassin's Creed here on this laptop, though.
