The meaning of life is in itself, to live.

To have offspring, and to contribute to an advancing society.
The rewards we receive in doing so are living itself - the daily experiences, pleasures, and memories. It's what keeps us going.

And once our usefulness is gone (by old age/disease), we die. Leaving our children to continue what we worked on.
But we shouldn't regret, because it's living itself (with pleasant memories) that was worth being alive for.
