Is Rosetta Stone good for learning languages?

I might be going to use it this year and I'm wondering if you guys can confirm it's good?

Is Rosetta Stone good for learning languages?

Personally I hate it. I've used it once for a little Japanese when I was at a summer program and it was not helpful at all in my opinion.

I believe you can get a free trial and see if you like it. What language are you learning?

If you are looking for a free alternative, I used to hang out at livemocha.com
Haven't use that site as much as I used to, so I can't testify if there's currently enough members to practice the language with, but who knows, you might like it.

Rosetta Stone sounds like a item in a mmorpg , no idea if its good but a guy on a podcast (diggnation) used to rave about it all the time.

Honestly I didn't like it. It just didn't keep my attention and didn't make trying to learn another language any easier than just googling webpages to help out.

I enjoyed learning it and thought it was good and really easy but you have to stick with it (aka don't get bored and stop XD ) You start off learning sort of random words and the sentences come later. I liked it.

I would love to use it sometime to expand my language base but it's so damn expensive!
