I preordered my copy and got it today (Europe), even though the release is supposed to be tomorrow.
So far, the game seems to be a bit simpler and I already got at least 40k of money on my first day. Plus or minus some extra, I spent some money at stores.

But so far it seems to be fun. Only have a hand ull of villagers, but I got plenty of bugs and fish for the museum.
also, digging spots are much more easier to spot than they were in the Wii-Version. Too bad I got one item twice. :/
It'll still take some time until the Nook-Twins upgraded their store and I got everything, but I'm looking forward to it.

I want this game so bad. I've never played animal crossing, but everyone's going cray cray over this one and holy crap it looks so cute!

Yeah it looks like is a lot of fun. I had animal crossing for gamecube but that was it and it was pretty fun.

The Garden Center sells axes and watering cans.
You can get it... uhm... I started last week on thursday and got iut on monday or tuesday. Or was it wednesday? I think you have to wait for five days until it's build.
Also, the center sells currently one tree sapling, to flower seeds and either the watering can or an axe.
Oh wait, no. You ned to do 30 activities regarding gardening. Watering Flowers, planting trees and flower, pulling weed and playing a few days. Then you get the garden center.

Also, the island has a chance of selling silver tools, although rare. It' easier to get one, if you visit Club Tortimer, then leave and visit another club island. These stores change whenever you visit the club.

You can also get them by unlocking the second floor of the Museum (having something in each collection and having one with over 20 items? Something like that) and they sell the silver tools for having a certain number of fish / bugs donated (:
