Anyone know of any up-to-date guides? My pet is about lv. 80 with around 80 HSD. Should I just train its level past 250 and bring up the HSD in the secret school, or...?

How did your pet get to be level 80 with only an HSD of 80? Usually the HSD is much higher than level when not even statted. Considering you are already in the four codestone range I would go with what you are already thinking and just power through until you can use the secret school.

I think it would be a more worthwhile investment to train a new pet from scratch.
However, if you are set on training your current pet, and it's exactly level 80, you should let the other stats catch up (240 hp, 160 str/def) since it is still at 3 codestones and 4 hours.
Maybe even finish the next tier or two (up to lvl 100/120), and then start training for 250!

If you have the patience, shoot for lv. 250 to use Ninjor's Thunderzord school.
There, red Codestones' low cost and low training time will catch up to what you've been missing, real quickly.

just race to level 250 it'll be cheaper in the long run.
atm it's not uncommon for you to have to pay 20-34k per training session buying codestone's for level 41+(3 codestones) and zed being the most expensive red codestone @ around 17-19k the rest fall in at 4-8k so it's a better deal.

After I got to 80 HSD I just trained the level, but now that I'm at that borderline of Lv. 80 I don't know whether I should keep going to catch up the rest.
I think I will train up the other stats though, until something happens like Coltzan leveling my pet, then power through levels only until 250 when I hit the four codestone category.
Thank you all for your advice!

Why would you do something like that? You can train each stat to 2x level and health to 3x level (after other stats are maxed.) With what you have now you will need to train something like 480 stat points without going up a level.
HSD is Health Strength Defense all added together
This is the guide I used when I first started getting interested in training a pet: (you need an account to see links)
For where you are now:
Lvl : 80
Str : Should be 160
Def : Should be 160
Mov : Ignore if you want
Hp : Should be 240
I was following the "get to 250 and just catch up on HSD w/secret training school" approach. But yeah, I'm going ahead and bringing my pet's other stats up, since I'm still in the 4 hr 3 codestones range, before I gather the patience to do keep doing that. It'll be more expensive, but meh.
