Text Pushing Against Back Of Image

Okay guys, a nice easy for you but can look cool.
We are going to make it look the text is behind the image and being pushed against the back of it.
I use a PC so I don't know what changes on a Mac

I will (smith is cool) be using this image.

It's a cover art for the band
    A Day To Remember

    STEP 1.

Open image up in photoshop, or just click and drag a pic straight from google images into the photoshop tab.
Make some nice big text across your image. When you're happy, right click the font layer tab on the left and choose Rasterize Type

    STEP 2.

Using your wand tool (w) select your text. Hold Ctrl on your keyboard to select multiple letters.
Once they are all selected, on the right, highlight the original image layer

Next, edit>copy then edit>paste or just press ctrl+C then ctrl+V
Delete your original text layer and it will look like the first picture again with the text "invisible"

    STEP 3.

Now we need to make it look like the text is bring pushed against the back of the image.
Open up your layer styles on the text/image layer we made

We want a small amount of drop shadow

    Then some Bevel and Emboss

    Then some Contour

Now we want to lighten it up very slightly with a colour overlay

There you go, not very hard but it's something to play around with.

If you find the image hard to read, darken the background image to make the letters more visible

Kind of hard to see the text in the final image, probably just the image itself - the letter shadows blend in with the 'black' of the original image, lots of dark colors/stuff going on in it.

    Nice tutorial regardless.

    will (smith is cool)
    Yes.

    Yes.

I know. It can be fixed with a lot more playing around but I didn't want to over complicate things

Girly... you got some great taste in music and your welcome.

The actual artist who made the image is called Dan Mumford, got some really sick shit and is one of my inspirations for my art.

Nice technique! I do agree that the letters are a bit hard to read given the amount of activity in the artwork, but the effect still looks very, very snazzy. Thanks for sharing
