I adored that book back when I had to read it and did extremely well in all the essays for it.

And I think the reference of the title is trying to say that the killing of a mockingbird is something you wouldn't normally hear, because mockingbirds are innocent and don't harm anything, and it's referencing to the innocent people in the book, and how they resemble the mockingbirds and how the deaths of them should be like the death of a mockingbird, and be shocking, because it shouldn't have happened.
