[Mini-Guide] How to make your pet to cache
How to make your pet to cache
~ written with @Latte <3
Having your pet cache is probably one of the most important things about a pet when going on the boards and especially if you intend to trade that specific pet. This mainly applies to desirable pets, such as UC’s, RWs, RNs and BD pets. Most people around the boards care a lot about a pet’s cache so they can know about one pet’s past history. They want to make sure your pet is legit and not a scammed one. In short, an updated cache is a sign of legitimacy. In this guide, we will help you get your pet a legit looking cache in a reasonable amount of time. However, this is mainly directed at people buying high-end pets, and or extremely board active people.
A cache is a snapshot of a webpage at a certain time. Mainly pages cache when Google (or other search engine) sites come around, and take screenshots of the webpage. Caches on neopets usually update every 1-2 weeks, depending on how many pageviews or how many times the page was updated. This is why an inactive RN pet, such as 'Jane', has an updated cache, even though the owner itself never updates the page. Because a bunch of different people gets to look at it, the cache is updated even more often. This also explains why inactive UC's have no cache; because nobody visits the page. But don’t worry; creating a cache isn’t a hard task. Simply follow this simple mini-guide and you should get your pet a legit-looking cache in no time!
This is how it looks like on Google when your pet has no cache yet.
After using one of our methods, your pet now has a cache!
Please note before reading on: Where you get your pet to cache is just as important as the cache itself! If you get a high-end UC, and make it cache on an account that looks like an empty shell, that won't do you any justice and people will get suspicious. For any UC pet, you should try to get it to cache on a great looking (semi-) main account. But also be aware that high-end pets will need a better-looking account than a low-end one to make it looks less suspicious. Also, getting the userlookup to cache, with the pet on it, will add an extra safety.
An UC on an empty shell
An UC on a main looking account
See the difference? The account can make a pretty good difference when making a pet cache so your pet doesn't look suspicious.
Now, let’s head to the part you've been waiting for. Of course, you can contact Google services and ask them to update the page, but for now, we will focus on making a cache ourselves. There are two methods to make your pet cache in a short amount of time: one to keep your pet more private, and the other method can be used with a few trusted friends.
Method 1: Update the page everyday
Google takes snapshots of pages when you add new information to them. This method involves you adding more information to the petlookup everyday, wether it be you updating the petlookup itself (CSS) or by adding new information, like:
• Day one: This is my pet, Bob.
• Day two: (Tack onto sentence one) Bob like cookies.
See, you don't need to make a saga for your pet. Just a sentence or even a letter every single day will be enough. I recommend doing this if you have a high end UC or P/R/D/K, and need to keep the pet on lockdown. This method does take 1 to 2 weeks, as you do get less pageviews since you are the only one visiting.
Method 2: Get a lot of pageviews
On top of adding new information, Google also takes snapshots when a page gets a lot of visits. This is why Inactive, RN rotting pets have fresh cache's from time to time, because other people are viewing the page! This is especially true around the time of the purge, when people are looking up these pets multiple times a day. What I recommend is refreshing the page of your pet multiple times a day (about 50 times) and having your friends view the page as well. This method is the fastest one. A pet can cache in about 5 days by doing this, but on average it takes about a week or so.
However, even if you choose this method, I recommend giving the pet a petlookup anyway, as it will make the cache look even more legit. The only difference with this method is you don't need to update the petlookup. Once the petlookup is up, you can just leave it that way and get it some pageviews. You can also get a lot of pageviews really fast by participating on the 'Would you adopt the pet above you' board, on the Pound Chat. This mainly works for UC faeries and under, as most people don't take a second look at those types of pets.
Method 3: Ask Google
If you are way too lazy to do it yourself, and don't wait waiting a few extra days, Google can update the cache for you. However, the time lapse before your pet get cached will vary from time to time.
Have a Google account and go here submit the URL of your pet's lookup!
In short, getting your new illegit pet a cache is the most important step in securing it before heading to the boards. Before waiting for it to cache, make sure your pet is on a well-looking account, along with a nice looking petlookup, to make sure nobody gets suspicious. Either updates the petlookup as often as possible, or get as many pageviews as you can. If you do it correctly, you should be done with this process in less than 2 weeks! Congratulations, your pet now has a legit looking cache and you are now ready to go around the boards with it. But always remember to be as careful as possible, even if your pet has a cache on your account.
